BOSTON, MA (AP/WBZ-AM) --- Boston's longtime prosecutor isn't running for re-election.Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said Tuesday he won't be seeking another four-year term in November.
Conley's office handled several high-profile cases including a 2017 double-murder trial against former New England Patriots star player Aaron Hernandez, who was acquitted but later killed himself in prison where he was serving a life sentence for another murder.
Conley also handled the case of a 2-year-old girl who became known as Baby Doe after her remains washed ashore in a trash bag in 2015. The ex-boyfriend of the girl's mother was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life.
The Democrat was appointed to the office in 2002 and held the job for 16 years.
He said it's time to give someone else a chance
Conley, tells WBZ NewsRadio1030’s Carl Stevens that if he has one more thing to do professionally, now’s the time to do it.
So what will be be doing next? Well, he is an attorney.
