BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- With the legalization of marijuana in Massachusetts, some doctors are starting to see patients who are getting sick from pot.
It's called cannabinoid hypermesis syndrome, and it's one nasty animal--suffered by people who overuse marijuana.
It's a rare condition, but WBZ NewsRadio 1030 writer Brit Smith, who has written articles for Medical Cannabis Magazine, says a friend of hers had it.
"He was basically for about six months using cannabis every single day for anxiety, and then later started noticing that it would cause him vomiting and nausea, and he would be rolling around on the floor gripping his stomach in terrible pain," she told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens.
Some cancer patients use marijuana to alleviate nausea, but it turns out that overuse can cause nausea.
"There's definitely a tolerance that is built up through daily use of cannabis that a lot of people don't realize can actually create its own side effects," Smith said.
