BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — One South Boston landmark opened for the season on Saturday, commemorating Boston's unofficial start of spring — despite snow showers and cold temperatures.

Many in line were bundled up from head to toe waiting for Sullivan's on Castle Island to open its doors for the 2023 season.

"It's definitely a tradition and it's generational, you see parents, kids, grandkids, and everybody looks forward to it every year," Steven Owens, a Sullivan's regular told WBZ's Mike Macklin. "It's just a great spot."

Sullivan's is known for having some New England summertime favorites such as hot dogs, cheeseburgers, lobster rolls, and fried clams. Each year, regulars wait in line for the window to open up, the sign they are back for the spring season.

"The owner Brendan does a great job, he's got a great staff and everything. It's just a terrific place to come, everybody really enjoys it," Owens said.

Sullivan's first opened in 1951, making this summer its 72nd season in business.
