SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Whether you eat it on a burger, with eggs, or plain, it's a day for bacon lovers to remember.

WBZ's James Rojas took a trip to Union Square Donuts to celebrate with a bacon maple donut.

"The sweet and salty combination everybody loves it, the way it pairs with our dough and the glaze and the saltiness of the bacon just cuts right through the fat in there... it's too good," said Christa LiTrenta, retail operations manager at Union Square Donuts.

LiTrenta forgot about the national day this year, but said she celebrates it every day at the donut shop.

"It's our claim to fame we were one of the first donut shops to pair maple glaze and bacon on a donut and we really take pride in the products we use, in the ingredients we use," LiTrenta said. "We use thick Applewood smoked bacon that we make fresh every single day."

One man decided to try one out for himself, "It's excellent... excellent."
