SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One kitchen in Somerville is swapping cooks for bicyclists.
Bikers gather weekly at Somerville Bike Kitchen to fix bikes, learn new repairing skills, and meet fellow cyclists free of charge.
WBZ NewsRadio's Chaiel Schaffel took a trip to one of the open shop nights to get a closer look at the DIY space.
"They come in with an issue and we help support them, we have all the tools," said volunteer Katie Theodoros.

Over the past seven years, the Bike Kitchen has helped thousands of people learn how to maintain their bikes independently.

"We don't just help people fix their bikes, it's more like we empower them to fix their own bikes," said Theodoros.
The non-profit provides bikers with the tools and knowledge to help each other fix problems. The concept is to create a workspace where the Cambridge and Somerville biking community can come together and promote cycling as a greener way to get around.
"You're out there, the wind's in your face, sometimes that's good, sometimes that's bad, [and] you don't have to look for parking," Theodoros joked.
The DIY bike co-op is completely volunteer-run and relies on donations to "keep rolling" as they say.
