Newton Worker Rescued After Getting Trapped In Trench

NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A worker is hospitalized after getting trapped in a trench in Newton on Thursday.

Newton Fire Department got a call around 9:15 a.m. that a trench collapsed causing a worker to get stuck at a construction site on Bonita Street, officials said.

Newton Fire said when they arrived at the scene the worker was "buried up to his waist" in the trench.

Crews rescued the worker and he was sent to Brigham and Women's Hospital for treatment. He was conscious and alert on the way to the hospital, Newton Fire said.

No other information about how the incident occurred is known at this time.
